History! First female coach in Bundesliga!

In a groundbreaking move, Union Berlin has rewritten the Bundesliga history books by appointing the league’s first-ever female coach amidst a thorough revamp of their coaching staff.

The Berlin-based German club made the official announcement on Wednesday morning, revealing the departure of their first-team coach Urs Fischer due to their abysmal run of form in recent times. With thirteen defeats in their last fourteen matches and a solitary draw, it was clear that a change was needed.

To address this setback, Marco Grote, the U19 coach at Berlin, has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the first team as the interim coach until further notice. Joining Grote on the touchline will be Marie-Louise Eta, who has been appointed as the new assistant manager on an interim basis.

This historic decision marks a significant milestone in the Bundesliga, as it will witness the presence of a woman in the dugout for the very first time. As Berlin prepares to take on FC Augsburg on November 25th, all eyes will be on this remarkable coaching duo.

Eta’s previous experience includes her recent role as the assistant manager for Berlin’s U19 side, a position she assumed in June 2023, where she worked closely with Grote to develop the team.
