Tragic news has struck the footballing community, as former Zimbabwean goalkeeper George Chigova has passed away at the tender age of 32. The talented shot-stopper reportedly collapsed at his home in South Africa, leaving behind a void in African football.

Chigova, who proudly represented Zimbabwe on 32 occasions, had recently overcome a heart attack back in July in his relentless pursuit to return to the beautiful game. He was associated with South African club SuperSport United, having joined their ranks in 2020.

During his illustrious career, Chigova had the privilege of showcasing his skills at the prestigious African Cup of Nations with the Zimbabwe national team. He played a pivotal role in their success, contributing to their triumph in the COSAFA Cup in 2017 and 2018.

Hailing from Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital, Chigova began his journey with Gunners Harare before moving on to represent Dynamos FC in his home country. His talent and dedication soon caught the attention of SuperSport United, who secured his services for a reported fee of £96,000 in 2014. The following year, he joined South African side Polokwane City, amassing an impressive 125 appearances for the club before making his return.
