Who will become African player of the year?

Morocco, who impressed as semi-finalists in the 2022 World Cup, have dominated the shortlist for the African Player of the Year award. Out of the 10 players nominated, four are from the Moroccan national team.

Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, full-back Achraf Hakimi, midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, and forward Youssef En-Nesyri have all been recognized for their outstanding performances in the tournament.

Morocco’s impressive World Cup campaign saw them top a group that included strong teams like Belgium and 2018 World Cup runners-up, Croatia. They then went on to eliminate Spain and Portugal before succumbing to a defeat against eventual champions France in the semi-finals.

It is a notable achievement for Morocco to have such a strong representation on the African Player of the Year shortlist. The performances of these four players have undoubtedly played a significant role in Morocco’s success on the international stage. It will be exciting to see who ultimately takes home the prestigious award.
